Regal Busways takes MAN Meridian double-act
Regal Busways Ltd. in Chelmsford has added two MAN Meridian single-deck buses to
its 30-strong fleet. The 44-seat Meridian body, from Wrightbus, is coupled with
MAN's 12m ‘A22’ chassis and powered by a six-cylinder, 270bhp MAN ‘Add Nothing’
engine.
The new additions go straight into service on Regal's No.1 service between Canvey
and Chelmsford, and the No.16 service between Chelmsford and Weathersfield. The
latest vehicle has been liveried in Regal Busways' new colour scheme.
Chassis specification on the 12 metre chassis includes a six-speed ZF automatic
gearbox with integrated retarder.
“Everyone knows MAN produces a strong, ultra-reliable chassis,” said Adrian McGarry,
Managing Director, at Regal Busways, “and the Wrightbus Meridian body is renowned
in the industry as a top-quality product.
“We took our first chassis in March, and were very impressed. Then, when a same-specification
ex-demonstrator became available, we jumped at the chance to complete the MAN Meridian
double-act.”
McGarry added, “We've had very positive feedback from the drivers, and, because
we run a mixed fleet, regular passengers are well aware of the different models,
and they too, are very impress with on-board comfort.”
Over the last 8 years Regal Busways Ltd. has grown significantly and its vehicles
can now be seen throughout Essex. In 2007, the company was awarded the Small Bus
Company of the Year at the routeONE Excellence Awards.
