Stagecoach UK Bus, one of the largest operators in the UK with express and local bus services across the country, and a comprehensive network of intercity operations, has taken its 1,000th MAN chassis.

Stagecoach has been taking MAN chassis since 1997 and currently has MAN A66 14.240 midibus chassis and MAN A69 12m low-floor, full size city bus chassis across its inner city services fleet. A further fleet of some 50 NEOPLAN Skyliners play their part in the company's high profile Oxford Tube and Megabus services.

Vince Welsh, managing director of MAN's UK bus and coach division, said, “It has been a privilege to work alongside Stagecoach in the UK and we share a great sense of pride in our involvement with their success over the years.

“What is of particular importance to us these days, however, alongside the significant MAN product presence in the Stagecoach fleet, has been the way our chassis are now operating right across the customer's UK services. This speaks volumes both about the product, and, far more importantly these days, the quality of the modern MAN network with its specialist ‘VIP Technicians’ team for bus and coach operator support around the country. We connect communities in over 100 towns and cities in the UK, running a fleet of around 7,000 buses and coaches that is one of the largest in the country.”

Les Warneford, Managing Director, Stagecoach UK Bus, said: “Stagecoach is leading the way in getting Britain back on board the bus and we are committed to reinvesting our profits in making further improvements to our quality of service to passengers. Two million passengers choose to travel with Stagecoach every day and having reliable products and support services are paramount. MAN has continued to develop and improve its ability in both areas over the years.”

Stagecoach is investing more than £70 million in new state-of-the-art vehicles this year, which are fitted with some of the greenest engine technology on the market. All new vehicles are fitted with CCTV systems for additional passenger safety and security, and the buses are fully accessible to elderly passengers, people with disabilities and families with young children.

Mr Warneford added: “Buses are a key part of the solution to the growing problem of traffic congestion in our towns and cities, and we believe there is a huge opportunity to attract more and more people out of their cars and on to public transport in the future. Continued investment in modern, sustainable vehicles that are attractive to passengers is a key element in delivering that strategy.”
